Rubber-ceramic panels: what to confirm before ordering
A purchasing checklist for rubber-ceramic panels: duty conditions, compound specifications, interfaces, samples and open requirements.
Updated: October 19, 2026
A rubber-ceramic panel combines a ceramic wear surface with a rubber layer and, in some designs, a steel backing. When reviewing a worn panel or a replacement offer, check the complete assembly rather than the ceramic grade alone.
Start with what failed
Record whether the ceramic is worn, cracked or missing, whether the rubber is damaged, and whether separation is visible at an interface. Photograph the whole panel and the affected area, with its location and operating history. These observations guide questions; they do not establish the failure cause or prove that a replacement will suit the duty.
Ask what the rubber specification actually covers
- Compound identification. Ask the supplier to identify the proposed rubber compound and describe any material substitution. A label such as “virgin” or “recycled” alone is not a performance specification.
- Properties and evidence. Ask which properties are specified, how they are measured and which supporting documents are available for that product. Do not assume that a catalogue value is a batch test result.
- Interfaces. Confirm how the ceramic, rubber and any steel backing form the assembly, and which agreed checks cover those interfaces.
- Duty limits. Provide the handled material, particle or lump size, impact conditions, normal and maximum temperature, temperature changes and relevant liquids or chemicals. The proposed assembly needs review against the actual duty.
Compare the same scope before comparing offers
Use the same drawing revision, panel dimensions, ceramic arrangement, backing and fixing requirements when asking suppliers to review an offer. List documents, sample requirements and acceptance checks separately. If a requirement is not confirmed, leave it marked as open rather than treating silence as compliance.
Agree the sample and order record
If a sample is required, first confirm its scope, availability, evaluation method and relationship to the intended production supply. Keep the agreed specification and any approved changes with the order. A sample's appearance alone does not establish service life or suitability.
What to send for a review
Send the drawing or measured dimensions, quantities, duty conditions, photos of the existing panel and the required-document list. We will first review the scope and identify essential missing information. Product suitability, sample availability, documentation and quotation timing remain subject to the actual supply review.
See rubber-ceramic panels and the selection guide. For an existing failure, use the failure review entry; a photo-based review is not laboratory analysis or engineering approval.
