Ceramic pulley lagging

Alumina tiles in a rubber layer for conveyor drive pulleys, hot-vulcanised or cold-bonded. Supplied as material or sheets, or made to your pulley drawing.

How it works

A layer of alumina tiles sits in a rubber base on the pulley shell. The ceramic grips the belt and resists wear; the rubber cushions the tiles and bonds them to the steel. The aim is to stop the belt slipping on the drive pulley, especially in wet, muddy or dusty conditions.

Two ways to fix it

  • Hot-vulcanised — strongest bond; the pulley is lagged in a workshop with heat and pressure.
  • Cold-bonded — adhesive applied by hand, suitable on site and for repairs.

Send the pulley size and how it will be fitted, and we recommend the method.

Limits

  • We supply material and sheets. Fitting, and any on-site vulcanising, is carried out by you or your local contractor.
  • Rubber limits the temperature; tell us if the belt runs hot or oils are present.
  • Ceramic lagging is worth it where slip is a repeated problem; plain rubber lagging costs less on dry, clean belts.

Questions

Hot-vulcanised or cold-bonded?

Hot vulcanising bonds the rubber to the shell with heat and pressure and gives the strongest, most durable bond; it needs a press or a skilled applicator. Cold bonding uses an adhesive and can be done on site, which suits repairs and pulleys that cannot be removed. Both are available; the choice depends on the pulley, the belt duty and who applies it.

Do you install the lagging?

No. We supply the lagging material or sheets, and lagging made to drawing. Fitting is done by you or by your local belt-service contractor.

Why ceramic instead of plain rubber lagging?

Ceramic raises the friction between pulley and belt, especially when the belt is wet or muddy, and the tiles resist wear that would polish plain rubber smooth. It costs more, so it is used where belt slip is a recurring problem.

Do you supply tiles only, for our own lagging production?

Is the belt slipping?

Send the pulley size, belt width and conditions. We will propose lagging and the fixing method.
