Alumina wear tiles & liners

Dense 92 % or 95 % alumina tiles that take the wear instead of the steel. Plain and weld-on tiles, mosaic and hexagonal mats, cylinders and custom shapes for chutes, hoppers, pipes and other surfaces where material slides and scours.

Custom shapes and assemblies

Cones, cylinders and transition pieces are built from shaped tiles, fitted and numbered at the factory so they go back together on site.

Choosing the fixing method

How a tile is held decides where it can be used. The alumina tolerates high steady temperatures; the adhesive, rubber or stud usually fails first.

Choosing the fixing method
MethodUse it whenLimits
Bonded (adhesive)Ambient to moderate temperature; mostly sliding wear; horizontal or inclined facesThe adhesive, not the alumina, sets the temperature and chemical limit. We check its rating against your maximum and fluctuating temperature.
Weld-on (stud + cap)Vertical and overhead faces, vibration, warm duties, wet corrosive duties such as flue gas desulphurisationStud and weld must suit the corrosive medium; tiles must be thick enough for the countersunk hole.
Vulcanised in rubberImpact together with abrasionRubber limits the temperature — see rubber-ceramic panels.
Interlocking / dovetailWhere adhesive is unsuitable and studs are impracticalNeeds a matching steel profile; made to drawing.

Where alumina tiles are a poor fit

  • Rapid temperature swings, quenching or frequent hot starts — alumina is sensitive to thermal shock.
  • Large lumps falling from height onto bare tiles — use rubber-ceramic panels at the impact point.
  • Duties where the adhesive or stud would fail long before the tile — change the fixing, not the grade.

92 % or 95 %?

92 % alumina is the standard grade for wear tiles. 95 % wears more slowly and costs more; we suggest it where wear is severe enough that relining downtime outweighs the price difference. Each quotation states the grade.

Questions

How thick should the tiles be?

It depends on how fast the surface wears now and how long you want between relines. Send the current lining thickness and its service life; we propose a thickness and explain the trade-off against weight and cost.

Can tiles follow a curved surface?

Mosaic and hexagonal mats follow curves. On large diameters, such as big silo walls, flat tiles can often be fitted directly because the curvature is small. Tight radii need mats or shaped tiles.

Do you supply the adhesive or studs?

Yes, adhesive or weld studs and caps can be supplied with the tiles, matched to the duty. Installation is by your team or a local contractor, following the factory’s installation notes.

Send the surface and the duty.

A drawing or photos with dimensions, the material and its temperature are enough to start. We reply within one business day.
